Leighton's First Easter

Well, our weekend got off to a bit of a rough start, but it turned out to be a great one.  Thursday afternoon, we packed up my Tahoe with the kiddo, the dog, and a ton of baby gear.  We got as far as Richmond when my check engine light came on and my car acted like it didn't want to go any further.  So, we decided to call an all-stop with the Tahoe, and we called Jeremy to come rescue us.  After loading all of our stuff into Jeremy's truck, driving home to get Lyn's truck, loading everything into Lyn's truck, driving back to pick up Lyn and Riley where we left them waiting on the tow truck, we were back on the road several hours later.  Thankfully, Leighton took everything like a champ and we finally made it to Victoria without further incident.  When we got to my parents' house, we put L down and went to eat a late dinner with David and Tiffany.  On Friday we went to church, Lyn played golf with some friends while the little one and I hung out, then we went to dinner with all of our folks and Ann.  Saturday we went to Hudson's 4th birthday party and had dinner at Lyn's parents' house that evening with a few visitors.

We had a great, albeit busy, Easter Sunday.  We went to church, then went to visit with my Mamie, then went back to the Goldmans' to get our stuff and the dog, then went to my parents' house so Leighton could see what the Easter bunny brought her there, then went to Mission Valley to Lyn's aunt and uncles', then went to Cuero to my uncles' place, then headed back to Katy around 6:30.  Whew... I got tired just typing that.  Leighton was super sleepy in the car, but she didn't go to sleep until we were about 20 minutes from the house.  Honestly, I am pretty thankful for that because we bathed and fed her when we got home and she slept from around 9:30 to 6 am the next morning.  Little one was worn out!  I could kick myself because I didn't take a SINGLE picture this weekend, but Lyn got a few with his iPhone.  We got some family shots with the Goldmans that I will get from them and share.  Enjoy these for now...

Leighton in her Easter dress (please excuse the mom in the background - not sure what is going on with my mouth)...
Getting her first of three Easter baskets on Saturday (the picture should be vertical - not sure how to flip it)...
A few cute ones of Leighton sleeping Friday morning.  First with her daddy...
And I have to share this one because Lyn got such a kick out of it.  He says it looks like she was shot down (I know that sounds terrible) - he said we should draw a chalk line around her...
Hope you all had a wonderful Easter!

Turning over a new leaf...

It's been a while since our last post, and we have some big news!  Last Friday, April 15th, Leighton rolled over for the first time.  I know what you're thinking... she's only 10 weeks old.  What can I say - she's an over-achiever.  As you may know, naps are an unknown phenomenon in our house - the little one typically only "sleeps" for 25-30 minutes at a time during the day.  So, she was resting in her crib on her tummy last Friday and I heard her crying over the monitor, so I went to check on her.  I put her pacifier back in hoping she would settle down and doze back off, then I left the room.  A few minutes later I heard her crying again, so I went back in to find her staring up at me.  It actually startled me at first because I wasn't expecting to see that, but then I realized what she did and I didn't know whether to be excited or sad because she was getting so big!!  The timing of the whole thing was pretty funny because the day before she rolled over I got my weekly email about her development.  The article was talking about "turning over a new leaf" and said that at this point, she should be able to move from her back to her side, but the complete roll over won't come for another month or so because she needs stronger neck and arm muscles for that maneuver.  Little do they know... this girl's pretty strong!

P.S. I have been trying to upload a video of her rolling over for days with no luck.  Hopefully I can figure this out soon.

A gift from Tiffany & Co...

No, not for mommy.  At 9 weeks old, Leighton got her first gift from Tiffany & Co.  A package arrived yesterday and I wasn't expecting anything, so I was very anxious to see what it was.  I opened the cardboard shipping box to find the most beautiful blue box ever!!  I couldn't wait to see what was inside.  If you'll indulge me a little bit, here's how it went...
As you can see, it was an adorable bunny piggy bank from our good family friends, the Thonsgards.  We found the perfect spot for the bunny on the shelf in Leighton's room right up there with Reba and the child that is not her...
Thanks to Wayne, Carla and Shea for the gift!  I must admit - I was a little jealous... mommy has never gotten a gift from Tiffany's (hint, hint daddy).

I heart daddy...

You can see it all over her face and her onesie that Miss Leighton loves her daddy...

(Yes, she was in the middle of a diaper change.  She also loves to air dry.)

Take Two

Unfortunately, take two of the two-month photo shoot wasn't much better than the first session, but we got a few good ones.  She's pretty dang cute if you ask me.  Biased?  No.

Here are a few more cute ones from tummy time earlier that day...

For Pops...

This weekend we went to Victoria, and Leighton got to hang out with Pops for a while before he had to leave town for work.  Leighton loves all of her grandparents, but she was really diggin' her Pops Friday.  Too sweet...

Two months old (a.k.a. A long post)...

Another month has come and gone - I can't believe it.  I just glanced back at Leighton's one-month photos, and she looks so tiny.  She is changing so much and is looking more and more like her daddy every day.  It's hard for me to tell, but even strangers will say that she looks just like Lyn.  Good thing he's cute!

Miss Leighton did so well with her first round of shots last Thursday.  She slept quite a bit during the day, so I was worried she might be up during the night, but her daddy put her to bed while mommy was shopping and she slept like a champ.  Here is a picture of the little one with her battle wounds.

The doctor said Leighton was doing great, but we have to switch her soap and lotion because she has very sensitive skin.  She had been getting little heat rashes on her face, but we started seeing spots on her tummy and her legs, so hopefully the soap swap will help clear her up.  Other than that, she got another clean bill of health.  Here are her stats at two-months...

Weight - 10 lbs. 13 oz. (51%)
Length - 22 1/4 in. (47%)
Head circumference - 15 in. (34%)

You can tell by looking at her thighs that she's starting to catch up in her weight a little bit.  Last month she was at 30%, and this month she's over the 50% mark.  Yesterday she wore a size 3 month romper I bought her for the first time, and I had to take it off when we got home because it was too tight on her tummy.  I hate it when that happens.  In her second month, she has started smiling and talking so much more!  When you catch her in a good mood, her face will light up when she sees us, and she will laugh and coo for a while.  It makes our day!  She really loves her swing now, and she will talk to the mobile that hangs from the top too.  The swing has been my saving grace - I can actually eat meals when she is awake from time to time.  She has also started blowing spit bubbles, which is super cute!  Enough rambling, I will get to the pictures.

Our first attempt at her two-month photo shoot was on Friday.  Unfortunately, Leighton was sucking on her hand the entire time because she was sleepy.  She is still such a doll though!  See for yourself...

We are going to try again today.

We survived!!

Leighton and I survived her shots at the doctor's office today.  Daddy was there to help comfort us both.  Little punky (currently her most popular nickname) is extra sleepy today, so she is actually napping for once.  This is the second time today she has been in her bed for longer than 30 minutes!!  Small blessings.  She hasn't been too fussy, so hopefully she will tolerate the shots like a champ.  I will likely postpone her two-month photo shoot until tomorrow, so check back soon.

A Quickie

I took a few pictures of Leighton Sunday in her cute church dress.  I am happy to report that this was our second Sunday in a row to actually sit in the church through the entire service.  Progress, folks!

This picture is for my mom.  I told her that Leighton was starting to get a double chin.  Here is proof:
Before we bathed her on Monday night, we introduced her to the mirror.  She was a big fan!  Please excuse me in all of these pictures - I just got back from a run after a long day at home.  It was not pretty.

Tomorrow Leighton will be two months old, which means that we go to the doctor for shots :(
Please pray that we both handle them well.  More tomorrow...

Someone else conquered it too...

A few pictures

Nothing too exciting going on here, but I thought I'd share a few pictures of the little one over the last few days.  She is getting so big!  She goes to the doctor next Thursday for her two-month check-up and we are very anxious to see how much she weighs these days.  We did a little test last night and we think she's around 10 pounds already!  She is super long though - she has just about outgrown her 0-3 month pj's already.

I have been trying to share a video of her talking, but the one on my camera was too long and I need to change out the memory card so I can get another one.  Stay tuned...
